Installing Microsoft Digital Image On Windows 10 AND 11

MS Digital Image Suite

Change sometimes is hard to do. I had been hanging on to this software from Microsoft since it was known as Microsoft PhotoDraw (not PictureIt!, as is stated someplace else). Says the one using Microsoft Expression to create web pages.

MS Photo Draw

All the Barovelli.com images that needed modifications were changed with it, as with the other famous LHT Network site images.

The software worked with Windows 7, and when upgrading to Windows 10 it worked just fine. Not until I did a clean install did I hit a wall. One warning about installing it on a 64 bit operating system that was ignored, then another hard stop when being informed that Internet Explorer version 6 was necessary for the installation. No other options there cancel and rewind the entire installation.

So I put the CDs on the shelf and looked for another image editor. Paint? No. Photoshop Elements? Acck. Various offerings from risky download sites? Hell no. I really tried to adapt my schlocky talents to PSE but it was not as familiar.

I searched for a hack, considered installing Windows 7 again and updating. Tried virtual machines. Tried running DIS on a laptop. Nothing was as quick and easy as the favorite.

Searching for internet tips was no luck, was I the only person in the world that LIKED MS Digital Image? So I set reminders to search the web for a workaround. One finally came up, courtesy of a site I never heard of - Windows Report

Some trick of starting the Windows log off allows the install to complete. Check the site for full details.

I was prompted to load disc 2. I did not get any install completion message, but the install dialog box eventually went away and the program could run.

Update 2024, instructions work on Windows 11. Same 64 bit warning and same IE6 error.
