Realistic Pro-43 Battery Holder Replacement
Got this scanner at a thrift for cheap. Sad part is that the battery holder had cracked on both ends.
I tried my luck with JB Weld on the broken edges and built up some bulk but
it instantly cracked again. Trying to find a drop in replacement yielded nothing
suitable.
As I looked a little for a replacement, bought one of these from the jungle web
site and another from China Express. Both were identical.
It was no plug and play, this holder had three problems. First was that it
was just a skosh too large in the width to fit in the radio's battery
compartment.
It only took a little sanding with a medium sandpaper flat on the table and
rubbing the holder across it to trim the width.
Second was the orientation of the battery contacts. The polarity was in the
right position but the contacts were north of the orignals.
I used a hook tool to unbend the radio's contacts in the battery
compartment, extending the reach.
Last was to cut a notch that keeps one from inserting the battery backwards.
Add some kapton tape to that exposed contact just for safety.
And it fits!
The battery door clips on and the scanner powers up. Tapping on the case and
door did not cause any cut outs.
