2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo - 2G1WM16K869259906

If you were sent here in a search for the VIN, here is some of the history behind Sugaree, the 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo sometimes called Loose Lucy.

Most importantly, the reason for being salvaged or totaled was from a low speed sideswipe that put a big dent in the left rear quarter panel. Happened on May 16, 2017. I chose to let it go, grandpa needs a 4 door vehicle again.

When I got it there were 55,000 miles on it. My last ride in it was at 224,000. Still runs ok.
I bought it for a commuter car - work was 90 miles a day each day. The miles racked up fast. I had the oil changed every 5,000 miles, the coolant was changed once a year and the transmission fluid changed every year as well.

At 95,000 miles for some ungodly reason the motor lunched and seized. I opted for a junkyard engine out of an Impala. Reportedly had 45,000 miles on that motor. Installation was at the Seaside Chevy dealer. It's been fine. Uses a quart of oil every 2500 miles. Passes California smog tests with flying colors.

I or my passengers never smoked in the car. Good chance that the first owner did not either. No telltale signs like burns in the seats or carpets. I remember it smelling like clean old car.

Sparkplugs are AC Delco Iridium. Replaced at 200,000 miles along with the ignition wires that were also AC Delco.

Changed all brake pads and front rotors in the past year. More genuine GM parts. If you don't like dust on your wheels and hate wheel wobbles when you put on the brakes, use GM parts.

There's a fat 12volt cable running from the battery to the trunk, all fused and terminated.

At the time of my releasing it, there is a Flowmaster 40 series muffler under the car.  Vrumm vrumm.

I disconnected the trunk popper button on the dash and replaced it with a hidden pushbutton at the edge of the lower dash, just to the left of the steering column. The trunk button on the dash now sounds the euro style PIAA horns that are under the drivers side headlight. Chevy horns still work as normal.

Trunk switch changed

Rides on it's second set of Michelin primacy radials. Super comfort, performance and wear. First set lasted 140,000 miles. Commute life. Bought some Eagle Alloy rims with the first set, they are getting a little pitted.

If the car still has the Eagle rims, the lug nut key is in the glove box or console. If it's missing email me and I'll send the serial and address to obtain a new one.

The fuse box cover is labeled "Flux Capacitor".

Lights in the foot wells are LED.

There was an add on Bluetooth box but all that remains is the microphone on the overhead console and the answer switch stuck to the upper corner on the windshield.  It's from a Scosche BT1000, they go for cheap on eBay.

Both the OnStar and XM radio boxes in the trunk are disconnected. Both worked fine before getting unplugged.

The GM squares normally on the front fenders were removed. The gold bowtie in the front was blacked out. The bowtie in the back was removed. Little letters on the trunk used to spell out MONTE CARLO LT. Now it just shows LOL.

LOL

Things to check on - or Loose Lucy's dark past:

Reaper meets Monte

OnStar antenna missing. Little shark fin jumped out on highway 101 someplace.

Right front door speaker weak or dead. I tested it by unplugging it an hooking up another speaker, still no sound. Wiring, head unit or amplifier in trunk.

The CD player may or may not work like it should. Might get stuck on one disk and refuse to change to another. I left all my home made CDs in it for you to enjoy. Hope you like Beach Boys, Elvis and Talking Heads.

Transmission acts like it wants to live, though I had my doubts. Amazing that it's rolled this long without a breakdown. Normally they go and bust at 100,000 miles. It will often slip a little from a stop. Or sometimes what seems like forever and BANG it catches. In a recent trip to Oregon it acted up with a pulsating behavior, I stopped for a break, checked the fluid and let it cool down. Made it all the way back to Monterey, no further attention given.

Electrical gremlins. Occasionally the seat belt warning light comes on. When the belts are perfectly in use. Shut the car off and restart and it may go away. Or it changes to the air bag service warning. Restraint system light in the overhead console may change with these bugs.
Used to get a traction control warning more often. When that comes on the transmission acts real weird. Replaced both front hubs, still seen it once or twice. Again, a shutdown and restart makes everything ok again. The Key-In-Ignition sound often keeps sounding without any key in the ignition. Close the driver door an it silences itself. Remote Start has worked a few times but most often not, probably related to the Key-In-Ignition thing. Remote start needs to have several things in place before it will work, like no key in the ignition.

You can see the other modifications over at the Monte Carlo section at the Car Projects page.

This was the Monte Of The Month for April 2016 voted by the members of the Monte Carlo Forum. Great forum to be in for support and socializing with other Monte Carlo owners,
